“No Way, They Were Gay?” is named a Chicago Public Library Best of the Best Books!

This is SO wonderful! The Chicago Public Library has announced their list of the “Best Informational Books for Older Readers of 2021” recommending 20 books for kids in 4th through 8th grades. “No Way, They Were Gay?” is on the list!

And something else amazing is that when you click on “Available” to see which branches of the Chicago Public Library system have copies, there are 77 copies of “No Way, They Were Gay?” in their system! 77 copies! (It is taking all my restraint to not type seventy-seven exclamation points.)

The idea that this book will get into kids’ hands, and help them feel seen, and know that history is not just for some people – that history includes men who loved men, women who loved women, people who loved without regard to gender, and people who lived outside gender boundaries – and be empowered by that knowledge. To know that they we Queer people have a place it the past. To know that they deserve a place at the table today – no matter their gender, no matter who they are or aren’t romantically or physically attracted to. To know that they are enough, just as they are, and that their future is one of infinite possibilities…

What an amazing honor.

I am so grateful.

The light in me recognizes and acknowledges the light in you,
Lee
