Countdown to “No Way, They Were Gay?” Launch: Days 16-4

I’ve been running these on social media (Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter) in my 31 day countdown to the publication of my debut nonfiction for kids and teens. And in the midst of it all, I changed my website home. So here, for fun, is the countdown up through today. (Only 4 days to go!)

I’m so excited to once again be teaming up with Brave Trails to empower LGBTQIA2+ kids and teens!
I felt the same way when I discovered this amazing Queer secret from #history ! Thrilled to have it in the book, and so fun to see this early buzz.
I’m a huge fan of Lesléa’s books for kids and teens. She’s iconic, and brilliant, and her enthusiasm for my book feels so great. (She also interviewed me for the bonus track on the audiobook of “Queer as a Five-Dollar Bill”, which remains a high point of this author adventure!)
@matthewwinner ‘s @childrensbkpod is such a great resource – and listen- Means so much that he blurbed my book!
Librarians are amazing. They have the power to empower. So having my book be “highly recommended” by Bookapalooza with Mrs. Mason (who was on 2 Newbery committees!) is thrilling.

#History
doesn’t have to taste like medicine – why not have it taste like chocolate, and be fun? After all, it’s packed with surprises, drama, and fascinating people. And some of them were #LGBTQ
With books for teens that are brilliant and brave and emotionally honest as hell, @ellenhopkinslit is one of my heroes. Her blurbing my book is an awesome moment.
Librarians are amazing, part 2: Grateful for @eabarbanel reading the ARC and loving my book enough to blurb it!
Ground-breaking author Ellen Wittlinger saying these words about my book is humbling and gratifying, and very cool.
I’m so happy for their child, who is getting such support (and hopefully my book) from their parent. What a gift (yes, the book, but more the acceptance and unconditional love.)
Michael’s blurb was so amazing, I had to share this part as well. Grateful that message came through. Because the book was, indeed, written for you.
A really nice early review. And yes, it’s for questioning young people, and also for those who have figured it out, inside and outside the rainbow of our community. Because knowing Queer history empowers everyone to understand how history has been sanitized for the protection of the people in power. And to challenge the dominant narrative and look deeper. And find ourselves.
Promo countdown has the cover of No Way, They Were Gay? Hidden Lives and Secret Loves" by Lee Wind, and a photo of the reviewer Amanda MacGregor. The text reads "Countdown to Launch: 4 Days" and then the review quote: "A really interesting read with a conversational tone, vibrant format, and so much historical information. A necessary addition to collections." –Amanda MacGregor, Teen Librarian Toolbox review @ School Library Journal
Getting this School Library Journal “Teen Librarian Toolbox” review from Amanda MacGregor is so gratifying – love that the “busy and lively” format and dip-in-and-out qualities were celebrated. “great and rather unique” – hurray! Read the full review here.

Stay tuned for the final few days, and if you’re able, join me at the free online launch party on April 6, 2021 at 6:30pm Pacific. You can learn more, and RSVP, here.
