“Writing the Rainbow” – a Highlights Foundation Class about writing LGBTQ Picture Books that I’m really excited about

So here’s the thing: reading up on the upcoming “Writing the Rainbow” six-part online course with Lesléa Newman and Rob Sanders offered by the Highlights Foundation, I got so excited, I signed up to take the class myself.

There are the six main sessions, and exercises, and discussion time, and even a one-on-one manuscript critique (that has to be in by tomorrow May 17, 2021.) You can read up about it here, and register here.

My debut picture book that I wrote comes out in October (hurray!) but I have quite a few picture book manuscripts that haven’t yet found a publishing home. And, there are so many more stories I want to tell. I know there’s so much more I can learn – that’s part of the joy of this journey! I’m really looking forward to this – and I know there are still a few spaces available. If it sounds right for you, consider joining in.

I’ve done one Highlights Foundation retreat in the past in person (a whole-novel revision workshop with M.T. Anderson as my mentor), and it was remarkable, and brilliant, and helped me get “Queer as a Five-Dollar Bill” up to the level that when it was crowdfunded and published it was the book I had hoped it could be, and it touched readers’ hearts, and even won some awards.

I can’t wait to be part of “Writing the Rainbow” and grow as a picture book author.

The light in me recognizes and acknowledges the light in you,
Lee
